Liquidation Clothes

Buckle up because this is where it really starts to get interesting. Have you ever been on a 30 hour drive? I made the decision to rent a lorry and drive to Poland. Yeah, I know what your thinking, "you're mad", yeah, looking back on the experience it was pretty crazy.

Driving across Netherlands, Germany and Poland is an experience I'll remember for life. I came to my first destination in Lodz, Poland, where I bought 100 suits for only €4 each. Only €400.

I'm telling you this because I sold them all for £40 each back in the United Kingdom, making me a crazy amount of £4,000. If I knew I was going to make that I'd have bought all 1,000 units the seller had to offer.

My next stop was where I filled the lorry up with stock, at Lublin, Poland where I was due to buy 10,000 designer jeans for €1.50 a piece. The blokes who showed me the goods opened 2 boxes of real designer jeans. I was very happy with the product, not realising at the time the other 248 boxes were full of fake designer jeans. This was the first big con of my life - what was I expecting! Spending €15,000 on fakes is not something I'll be forgetting soon. On top of this I spent £4,000 on lorry hire, diesel, ferries, hotels etc, bringing the total trip cost to €25,000.

I cried for a long time when I realised I got scammed. Being who I am, I was determined to try and sell these terrible jeans if at all possible - Ebay, Etsy, Red-bubble and car boot sales, anyway I could get rid of them. I listed them on online for £5 each, and months went by with no results. I finally made the decision to take them to a car boot sale and sell them for £2 each. After 15 Saturdays doing this I sold 3,000 units at £2 each making me £6,000.

My next move was to rethink how I would re-advertise the jeans online. I came up with this great idea - instead of selling them for £5 I would list them 3 for £15. It took a couple of days to index well, but then things started to change. I went from selling 0 in 3 months to 20 pairs a day.

I moved 7,000 units, making around £35,000 (gross profit £23,000). So after getting completely ripped off, I turned it around and made money.

From this business I learned:

1. Carry out quality checks on items before buying.

2. Get creative with offers (2 for 1, free shipping etc).

3. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

4. Try different sales methods to increase sales.
